  1. A, B and C undertake to complete a piece of work for ₹ 1440. A alone can complete the work in 8 days, B in 12 days and C in 16 days. They complete the work with the help of D in 3 days. What does D get?
    1. ₹ 265
    2. ₹ 270
    3. ₹ 300
    4. None of these
Correct Option: B

As per the given question, we can say that

A’s one day's work = 1
8
B’s one day's work = 1
12
C’s one day's work = 1
16

D’s one day’s work = 1/3 - (1/8 + 1/12 + 1/16) = 3/48 = 1/16
Thus the ratio of efficiencies of A, B , C and D is 1/8 : 1/12 : 1/16 : 1/16 = 6 : 4 : 3 : 3
We have total wages = 6k + 4k + 3k + 3k = 1440
⇒ 16k = 1440 ⇒ k = 1440/16 = 90
Share's D = 3k = 3 x 90 = ₹ 270
