  1. A person bought two bicycles for $ 1600 and sold the first at 10% profit and the second at 20% profit. If he sold the first at 20% profit and the second at 10% profit, he would get $ 5 more. The difference of the cost price of the two bicycles was :
    1. $ 50
    2. $ 40
    3. $ 25
    4. $ 75
Correct Option: A

Here , C.P. of two bicycles = $ 1600
If the C.P. of first bicycle be $ y, then C.P. of second bicycle = $ (1600 – y ). Then,
According to question ,

y × 120
+
(1600 - y) × 110
-
y × 110
-
(1600 - y) × 120
= 5

⇒ 12y + 17600 – 11y – 11y – 19200 + 12y = 50
⇒ 2y = 50 + 19200 – 17600
⇒ 2y = 1650 ⇒ y = 825
C.P. of second cycle = 1600 – 825 = $ 775
Required Difference = 825 – 775 = $ 50
